Secrets to Success...How to Unleash Your Potential!

I often sit back and think about life. I love to reflect and to vet out what is working and what isn't working. Not just in my personal life, but in my business life as well.

When I consider all that I've experienced, my thought is I wish I would have known that when...How many times have you actually had that same thought? For years, I have shared information I've learned with people that are close to me. Sometimes, I've even shared with strangers. Over the years, the knowledge I have gained has come at a cost of lots of time, energy, and stress, and let's be frank that is priceless.

I love to absorb knowledge, and truthfully it has been a great benefit to a lot of people. Sometimes people mention the most random topics or ask the most random questions. On numerous occasions, I have been able to respond without even thinking. This has help me to see the value I can add to society. Let me first start off by saying that just because my business is based around coaching and consulting, I am not attempting to sell you anything! This article is information that should be given freely to any and everyone that desires to become a business owner.

There is a few things that people that know me on any level should be able to say about me:

  1. I am really genuinely concerned with being able to provide the generations coming up behind us more guidance in life than we received because the have the ability to effectively change the course of our livelihood as society.

  2. If I give you something, I am giving it to you without anything in return unless I explicitly state that I am in expectation.

  3. I try to be a person of my word. I say try because, let's be real, I am human and although my intentions are usually pure, there are sometimes unforeseeable circumstances that could hinder me from doing what I planned to do.

With that being said, let me address a how this pertains to this blog post. The information provided in this post is completely free. It is available to anyone. PHOENIX's Secrets to Success will continue to grow as there are more secrets revealed to me. The basic concepts of the thoughts around the secrets will be provided at no cost. From time to time, I may provide tips, tricks, or software reviews that I have personally used in business or that I have evaluated to potentially use in business or for a clients. I will share my thoughts and views concerning the product. Now that we've gotten that out of the way let's get started!

One of the main ingredients a business needs in order to be successful is consumers!!! Without anyone to buy your product or service, there isn't a way to be successful.

Your road to success begins well before your business name, location, building, or even products and services exists. Once you determine(d) that your hearts desire is to own your own business, your first thought will more than likely be if anyone would want to buy what you are offering.

My first secret to success is to "Treat Everyone Humanely." Throughout my life there are lots of things about me that have changed, but at least one thing has remained the same. I have always been a person to show compassion and connect with people on a level that lets them know I see them for more than just another person, a number, or a name. Each and every person that exists is unique and whether or not they show it, they possess something that we all have...FEELINGS! Now imagine...Person A starts a business and Person B starts the same type of business. Person A has always been willing to help out, give advice, or point you in the right directions. Person B has been around, but has never made themselves available, and seemed a little bit more self-centered than Person A. Both are offering service/products at the exact same cost and the delivery time frame is the same. Who would you prefer to do business with?

Now hear me out, I am not saying that Person B won't offer the same or better service than Person A, but I am saying that more often than not, we make decisions based on our previous experiences in the event of being in a situation thats needs a tie breaker, so to speak. It has been my experience that when you treat people humanely and make them feel as if they not only have a voice, but that their voice matters, it builds rapport. In business, rapport building is extremely important in business. Even the world renowned Tony Robbins talks about the importance of building rapport in business.

For a number of years, I worked on the leadership in a large home improvement retailer's IT department. One thing I remember from my very first day at the company's headquarters was that the HR Manager leading the onboarding class stressed that the company focuses on putting it's customers first. We were told that we are expected to lead with this in mind. After witnessing the brand loyalty following that this company has built over the years, this will be the first key to success for me.

It will cost you zilch to implement this secret. Are you already on the path to being successful based on this secret to success?

Often times I hear people say, I want to start my own company, but I don't have the money. I am saving towards starting it, but I don't have enough money yet.

I do not share those same sentiments. Success is more about time than money. This leads me to my second secret to success. "Dedicate Time to Being Successful". Have you begin to think about what type of business you want to own? Have you determined a name for your business? Have you looked into what it takes to operate your business? If not, this is definitely a starting point to establishing your success.

Let's chat...that's often what I tell potential clients. Sometimes when people met with me about business, they feel that they are not in a position to start working on their business. You would be surprised that one of the biggest determining factors in how successful a person is determined not by the amount of money that they have to put into the business, but how much time they are willing to dedicate to get the business up and running. At this point you're probably thinking to yourself, "PHOENIX, what the heck are you talking about?"

Let me break things down for you:

  1. Determine what type of business you want to own.

  2. Will you offer goods?

  3. Will you offer services?

  4. Determine who your prime customer will be.

  5. Target age group

  6. Other demographics

  7. Determine your business name.

  8. Visit the Secretary of State website and determine if your business name is available by doing a name search to see if the business name is available.

  9. I would definitely recommend paying the name reservation fee which is usually around $25. This can vary from state to state. If you are unable to pay to register your business this is a good idea to do. It will buy you time to gather the money to pay the filing fee.

  10. You also have the options of establishing a Doing Business As (DBA) which will allow you to do business as sole proprietor, but you would be able to use your desired name.

  11. Design your brand identity.

  12. What colors will you use to represent your company?

  13. What font will be the basis for all of your branding on your website, social media accounts, stationary, and even e-mail signature.

  14. Use free options such as CANVA to design your logo. Remember, logo of some major businesses have changed over the years. Just because you start with a logo now, doesn't mean that you can't change it later.

  15. Now, I'm going to leave you here...the point of this secret to success is to show you that it doesn't have to be expensive to begin to establish your authority. Now that you have begin to establish your goals and are making time to reach them, it's time to start moving forward.

The old saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day." My third Secret to Success is to "Start Small, but Think Big!" This secret will save you a lot of time and money in the long run. Often we jump the gun and think that we need all of the latest and greatest in order to move forward with business. This is what causes a lot of companies to go bankrupt within their first two years of business.

It is important to maximize efficiency while minimizing costs.

There are numerous suites of products that can be a benefit to businesses as they combine many different functions into one. The upside to that is that it allows you to minimize the costs associated with utilizing multiple products while still being able to complete the same tasks in relatively the same amount of time. I will review some of these products in future articles.

It is always important to ensure that when you are starting out you keep the costs low, but the products you invest in should be scalable. This means that it can work for a small business, but if the business grows it can easy expand to support the new needs of the business.
